Our San Antonio office is in Fountainhead Tower on I-10, and we take car wreck cases from across Bexar County and from the cities around it. Each city below has its own police department, its own main roads and, outside Bexar County, its own county courthouse, and each of those changes something about a claim: who writes the crash report, where a lawsuit is filed, and which liens can apply. The crash counts are TxDOT’s 2025 figures for reportable crashes inside each city’s limits, from CR-3 reports processed as of April 7, 2026.
| City | Crashes in 2025 | People killed | County |
|---|---|---|---|
| San Antonio | 37,299 | 167 | Bexar |
| New Braunfels | 1,643 | 4 | Comal and Guadalupe |
| Seguin | 1,028 | 4 | Guadalupe |
| Schertz | 1,005 | 2 | Guadalupe, Bexar and Comal |
| Leon Valley | 680 | 1 | Bexar |
| Converse | 656 | 1 | Bexar |
| Live Oak | 656 | 1 | Bexar |
| Universal City | 592 | 1 | Bexar |
| Boerne | 477 | 2 | Kendall |

San Antonio
Inside the city, the San Antonio Police Department investigates wrecks, and outside the city limits in unincorporated Bexar County the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office usually does. Bexar County as a whole had 46,744 reportable crashes in 2025, with 190 people killed. A lawsuit over a wreck in the county is usually filed in Bexar County district court, the county where the events happened (Civil Practice and Remedies Code 15.002). Our car crash lawyer San Antonio page covers the city’s roads and its trauma centers.
New Braunfels
New Braunfels sits on I-35 between San Antonio and San Marcos, and the city lies in both Comal and Guadalupe counties. The New Braunfels Police Department handles wrecks in the city. Its 1,643 crashes in 2025 put it second among the cities on this page. Because Comal County has far fewer than 800,000 people, an ambulance provider there can hold a lien on an injury claim for its charges, up to $1,000, under Property Code 55.002(c) and 55.004(f), a lien that does not reach care given in Bexar County.
Schertz
Schertz spreads across Guadalupe, Bexar and Comal counties along I-35 and FM 3009. TxDOT’s I-35 Northeast Expansion runs its elevated lanes from I-410 South to FM 3009, so drivers through Schertz meet the construction zone at its northern end. Texas’s Move Over or Slow Down law (Transportation Code 545.157) applies to TxDOT and construction vehicles working with their lights on. The Schertz Police Department handles wrecks in the city.
Converse
Converse is in northeast Bexar County, near Loop 1604 and FM 78. The Converse Police Department investigates wrecks in the city, and wrecks just outside its limits go to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. Section 550.026 of the Transportation Code says which agency a driver must notify: the city police inside a city, and either the city police or the sheriff when the wreck is no more than 100 feet outside the limits.
Universal City
Universal City sits along Loop 1604 and Pat Booker Road beside Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph. The Universal City Police Department handles wrecks in the city. A wreck with a government vehicle, including one from a city or a public agency, carries a written notice deadline of six months under Civil Practice and Remedies Code 101.101, and a city charter may set a shorter one.
Live Oak
Live Oak lies where I-35 meets Loop 1604 on the northeast side, one of the interchanges TxDOT’s I-35 Northeast Expansion connects to directly. The Live Oak Police Department investigates wrecks in the city. Its 656 crashes in 2025 matched Converse’s count.
Leon Valley
Leon Valley sits on Bandera Road, State Highway 16, between Loop 410 and Loop 1604 on the northwest side. Bandera Road carries heavy traffic with many driveways and turn lanes, where left-turn wrecks are common. A driver turning left must yield to oncoming traffic close enough to be a hazard (Transportation Code 545.152). The Leon Valley Police Department handles wrecks in the city.
Helotes
Helotes is further out on Bandera Road, State Highway 16, beyond Loop 1604 at the edge of the Hill Country. The Helotes Police Department handles wrecks in the city. Roads here mix fast highway traffic with local turns into neighborhoods and businesses, and rear-end and turning wrecks follow from that mix.
Boerne
Boerne is the seat of Kendall County, northwest of San Antonio on I-10. The Boerne Police Department investigates wrecks in the city, and a lawsuit over a wreck there is usually filed in Kendall County. A wreck on the Bexar County stretch of I-10 is a Bexar County case, whatever the driver’s home city.
Seguin
Seguin is the seat of Guadalupe County, east of San Antonio on I-10. The Seguin Police Department handles wrecks in the city, and its 1,028 crashes in 2025 included 4 deaths, the same number as New Braunfels. A lawsuit over a wreck in Seguin is usually filed in Guadalupe County. As in Comal County, an ambulance provider in Guadalupe County can hold a lien of up to $1,000 on an injury claim under Property Code 55.002(c).
One firm for all of them
Whichever city the wreck happened in, Texas law is the same on fault, insurance and deadlines; what changes is the agency, the courthouse and the roads. We work with each police department’s report through TxDOT’s crash records system, and the first consultation is free. We work on a contingency fee: you pay no attorney’s fee unless we recover money for you. We advance the case expenses, and if there is no recovery you owe no fee and no case expenses. If there is a recovery, the fee and the expenses are paid from it as your written fee agreement sets out before we start. The firm’s main website is lawboss.com.

Questions people ask
Do you take cases outside San Antonio?
Yes. From the San Antonio office we take car wreck cases across Bexar County and in New Braunfels, Schertz, Converse, Universal City, Live Oak, Leon Valley, Helotes, Boerne and Seguin, and the firm handles cases elsewhere in Texas.
Where is a lawsuit filed if the wreck happened in New Braunfels or Seguin?
Usually in the county where the wreck happened, under the general venue rule in Civil Practice and Remedies Code 15.002: Comal or Guadalupe County for New Braunfels, Guadalupe County for Seguin. Venue can also lie where a defendant lives.
Which police department writes my crash report?
The one whose city the wreck happened in. Outside city limits, usually the county sheriff or a state trooper. Every officer’s report goes to TxDOT within 10 days, which is where you can buy it.
